PSAT/NMSQT

The PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is an optional, multiple-choice test that measures skills that are important for success in college including critical reading, math problem solving, and writing. We highly recommended that all college-bound students take this test. The PSAT/NMSQT is directly tied to consideration for the National Merit Scholarship Competition.

  • Juniors: We recommend that all college-bound junior students take the PSAT/NMSQT. As a junior you are automatically entered into the National Merit Scholarship Competition by taking the PSAT/NMSQT. This could earn you thousands of dollars in scholarship money depending on your performance on the test.
  • Sophomores: High-achieving sophomore students are encouraged to take the PSAT/NMSQT in preparation for taking it again junior year. You must take the PSAT/NMSQT again junior year in order to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Competition.
